Toowoomba Bypass open to drivers

The Toowoomba Bypass, formerly known as the Second Range Crossing, is now open, offering an alternate crossing of the Toowomba Range for heavy vehicles. This will improve freight efficiency, driver safety and reduce the number of trucks on Toowoomba’s roads.

The 41-kilometre route bypasses Toowoomba, from the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa in the east, to the Gore Highway at Athol in the west, via Charlton.

Broadspectrum will operate and maintain the road on behalf of Nexus Infrastructure for the next 25 years.

The Toowoomba Bypass is a significant piece of national infrastructure, providing benefits to drivers in the Toowoomba and Darling Downs regions by providing a simpler route for heavy vehicles and avoiding up to 18 sets of traffic lights.

The toll road will be free for its first three months of operation. The opening on 8 September was celebrated with community activities including an open day, marathon and charity bicycle ride.
