Easternwell staff support plasma donation drive

Easternwell staff supported the Australian Red Cross Blood Service by donating plasma at the Toowoomba Donor Centre.

The centre is aiming to collect 100 life-giving plasma donations, and in doing so, raise awareness of how valuable this blood component is when it comes to saving lives.

"Plasma is the fluid component of our blood, which moves our red cells, white cells and platelets throughout our bodies," said Blood Service spokesperson, Sandee Thompson.

"This liquid gold is packed with powerful proteins and is used to make 18 different medications that can protect people against chickenpox and measles, provide specialised treatments for immune deficiencies, and much more," Mrs Thompson said.

Easternwell Operations Support Officer, Gary Mayers gave his 45th donation, along with other team members keen to support the cause.

"I think blood and plasma donation is incredibly important. I've had family and friends go through the cancer journey, and plasma donation is a simple way I can help to make a positive difference in someone's life."

"I'm pleased Easternwell provides opportunities for our team members to give back to the local community," said Gary.
