​Broadspectrum hosts excellent young minds

Broadspectrum and Puckapunyal Military Area (PMA) recently hosted eight students from four schools in the Seymour area in Victoria as they participated in a Mindshop Excellence Program.

The structured five-day work experience program is designed to foster valuable skills transferable to any industry, including teamwork, self-confidence and problem-solving.

During the program, the students worked as a team to review Broadspectrum’s recruitment processes and methods of advertising and communicating with next generation employees. At the end of the week, the students provided their findings and offered meaningful recommendations about how Broadspectrum could improve its recruitment processes to attract candidates to the business.

South East Zone General Manager, John Parisella, said: “The feedback from the students was highly valuable for future recruitment activities. It’s important that we continually look for new ways of doing things. We need to understand how to appeal to a new generation of workforce that will be the future of Defence industry.”

For the last three years, Broadspectrum has successfully partnered with the Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network, GOTAFE, St Mary’s Catholic School, Seymour College and the Seymour Flexible Learning Centre as part of a youth partnering forum. Through the forum, students participated in a mock interview process to apply to be part of the Mindshop program.

Broadspectrum’s 2,500-strong workforce delivers estate and infrastructure services under Defence's Estate Maintenance and Operational Services (EMOS) contract directly to Australian Defence Force (ADF) members at over 230 major and remote Army, Navy and Air Force sites across Australia.
