AGL Loy Yang Power Station connects with the community

Thursday, August 03, 2017

TW Power Services, AGL Loy Yang Power and Baw Baw Latrobe Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) have provided 207 students with work experience and work placement opportunities in the six years the joint venture has been in operation.

The 207 students participated in 1,219 days of work experience while another six students participated in 600-plus days with school-based Apprenticeships at the Power Station, working in the maintenance, engineering and business administration fields.

Since implementing the Students@Work program in 2011, TWPS has provided 42 students with the opportunity to spend one week on site working on a project which improves their team work, problem solving and project management skills.

Thanks to these programs, TW Power Services has offered two students full time apprenticeship positions on the contract in fitting and turning, and boilermaking.

The joint venture represents the ongoing commitment between TW Power Services (a joint venture between Broadspectrum and WorleyParsons), AGL Loy Yang Power and LLEN to support and mentor young people throughout the Latrobe Valley region.

TWPS is also a signatory to the Gippsland Youth Commitment which promotes a collaborative region-wide approach to improving education and training opportunities and outcomes for all regional youth and local economic development.

TW Power Services Contract Manager, Michael Billings, said: "AGL Loy Yang's participation in these programs has provided students with valuable insight into potential career pathways within the power industry, our client AGL, TWPS and Broadspectrum."

"These initiatives have increased and strengthened the engagement between AGL Loy Yang, Broadspectrum and TWPS within the local community."

Engagement includes supporting the local community through sponsorship and donations. For every day the contract is injury-free, money is donated to a local community organisation.

To date, this initiative has led to the donation of $119,095 to organisations that focus on a range of issues close to the heart of the local community, including mental health, disability, poverty, saving lives, and animal rescue.
