Pihi Ward 2 Deputy President, Leone Kanawi welcomed guests reminding everyone of the central role women play in the village and beyond, “today we are celebrating the heart of the family, the community, the country, the world. Happy Mother’s Day!”
Mother's Day is traditionally a celebration honouring one's own mother, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May.
Welfare Case Manager, Natalie Eaton thanked Transfield Services for assisting with the coordination of the event and the magnificent hosts that made the day so special, “It was fun, fun, fun. I enjoyed hearing about the customs and traditions of the Manus Province people. Also I enjoyed the kindness and generosity of the Manus women. I would like to give special thanks to the women that cooked the beautiful food and to the band that played exceptionally well.”
