Pihi Ward 2 Women of Lorengau on Manus celebrate Mothers Day

Transfield Services team members located at Manus as part of our operations running the Regional Processing Centre (RPC) were proud to support, participate and attend Mother’s Day Celebrations held on the island and hosted by the Pihi Ward 2 Women of Lorengau.

On behalf of the Pihi Ward 2 Women of Lorengau, Transfield Services were proud to coordinate employees and other service provider attendance, which included over 15 Expat and Local National Transfield Services employees, representatives from the Department of Immigration and Boarder Protection, Wilson’s Security and IMHS.

The afternoon event, held on Sunday 11 May 2014 at Kohai Lodge Lorengau, included traditional and modern dancing, music and food. Transfield Services supplied platters of Australian cakes and biscuits as well as boxes of water.

Pihi Ward 2 Deputy President, Leone Kanawi welcomed guests reminding everyone of the central role women play in the village and beyond, “today we are celebrating the heart of the family, the community, the country, the world. Happy Mother’s Day!”

Mother's Day is traditionally a celebration honouring one's own mother, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May.

Welfare Case Manager, Natalie Eaton thanked Transfield Services for assisting with the coordination of the event and the magnificent hosts that made the day so special, “It was fun, fun, fun. I enjoyed hearing about the customs and traditions of the Manus Province people. Also I enjoyed the kindness and generosity of the Manus women. I would like to give special thanks to the women that cooked the beautiful food and to the band that played exceptionally well.”
