Transfield Services preferred for contract with Alcoa

Transfield Services has been awarded preferred tenderer status for a new A$66 million contract with Alcoa of Australia to provide maintenance services at its Pinjarra alumina refinery in Western Australia. Under the contract Transfield Services will also be invited to competitively tender for work at the Kwinana and Wagerup refineries on an ad hoc basis.

The contract is for five years and commences 1 July 2011.

Transfield Services will provide integrated mechanical, electrical and scaffolding services. Alcoa of Australia’s three refineries have a combined capacity to produce approximately 9 million tonnes of alumina per year which accounts for 11% of total world demand.

Alcoa is the world's leading producer of alumina, primary aluminium, and fabricated aluminium. In addition, Alcoa’s Australian operations represent the world’s largest integrated bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminium smelting and rolling system.
