On a winner as Broadspectrum drives more jobs in South Australia

Another 107 bus drivers joined Broadspectrum’s Light City Buses contract in South Australia in the last 12 months, many of whom included long-term unemployed candidates.

The Structured Training and Employment Project (STEP) was a collaboration between Broadspectrum, Workskil Australia, MAX Employment and Time Education and Training to provide training and guaranteed paid employment upon completion.

Job providers Workskil Australia and MAX Employment recruited candidates for the project, while Time Education and Training provided industry-accredited training.

Candidates were trained for six-weeks in five accredited units of competency including customer service to passengers and driving heavy vehicles. Once all the requirements were met, they were hired by Broadspectrum's Light City Buses, which provides one-third of Adelaide's metropolitan bus services.

Light City Buses' Contract Manager, Wayne Steed, was happy with the collaboration's positive result: "This partnership and its successful employment of 107 new bus drivers has set a significant benchmark here in South Australia. The bus drivers passed their skills and competency training with flying colours after receiving the support from this great development program. We are proud to have expanded our team with these highly-skilled new bus drivers as we aim to ensure a reliable public transport service to Adelaide passengers."

Workskil Australia Chief Executive Officer, Nicole Dwyer, said the collaboration afforded opportunities to South Australians from all walks of life: "The employment program was highly successful because of Broadspectrum's willingness to give people a fair go. This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when industry and workplace agencies collaborate."
